With some of the world’s largest meat companies and growing per-capita consumption of animal-based meat, Latin America has an important role to play in transforming the global food system. That’s why GFI Brazil is partnering with FoodTech Hub Brazil, the first food tech hub in Latin America, to support the burgeoning alternative protein market throughout the region.
Early plant-based protein innovators are already proving that Latin America’s alternative protein market has a fertile ground on which to grow. Brazillian good food startup Fazenda Futuro has been valued at $100 million in just a few months since its founding. Large meat companies lost no time responding. From JBS brand Seara’s “Incredible” line of burgers to Marfrig’s plant-based burgers in Burger Kings across Brazil, plant-based protein is on the rise across Latin America.
Behind the scenes, others are getting involved in the good food revolution. Paulo Silveira, former Danisco Ingredients CEO and one of Brazil’s top food production entrepreneurs, is leading one of these fronts with FoodTech Hub Brazil, the first of its kind in Latin America. The hub plans to unite key alternative protein players to generate top-quality products that meet growing consumer demand for new, innovative protein products.
GFI Brazil will work with FoodTech Hub Brazil to support Latin America’s alternative protein market by connecting entrepreneurs, investors, companies, and universities via the hub. GFI Brazil will also share insights about the specific demands of this new industry.
Paulo Silveira said, “The Food Tech Hub seeks partners with innovative visions, with clear objectives and execution capacity for the development of innovation in the food chain, and certainly the Good Food Institute is a partner with this capacity and attributes.”
Much more awaits! But for now, any stakeholder interested in the transformation of the food industry can be sure that Latin America has a new and innovative participant in the good food revolution.
Keep up to date with the latest alternative protein innovations across Latin America with FoodTech Hub Brazil.
